Welcome to the 205th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry's Web Site! The purpose of this site is to honor all the men and women who served in the War of the Rebellion or the War of Northern Aggression depending on where they pledged their allegiance. Regardless of which side they chose, this site is to honor them, our ancestors. Also remembered here are all the German Immigrants and their descendants that answered the call during the civil war. But in particularly, it is meant to honor those men who served in the 205th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry in which my great grandfather, William Samuel Wintrode served as a private in Co. I of the 205th Regiment. His Regiment was engaged in the Petersburg, Virginia Campaign. Soon to be included herein are his enlistment papers, discharge papers, pension papers and correspondences for him and other ancestors who served in this conflict to preserve the union. I hope that the site will become a place for the regiment’s descendants to remember what sacrifices their ancestors made or were willing to make to preserve this union. Although I did research at the National Archives in Philadelphia, Pa. and the Philadelphia Free Library the vast majority of the information in this site came from online research of Civil War Operation Reports. The information that you will find on these pages is for your review and enjoyment. I strive for accuracy and welcome any suggestions, criticisms, corrections, bad links etc.. I especially welcome contributions from you, the visitor. If you have something that you'd like to see on these pages, such as a poem, song, image, link, etc., let me know. I will credit your contribution appropriately. In the meanwhile, enjoy your visit and thanks for stopping by!
